COVID-19 update: Client advice on what to do during the Coronavirus pandemic.
Studies have shown that laparoscopic spays can reduce post-operative pain by up to 65%. This is achieved through minimal incision area, requiring on average a quarter of the area that would be required during traditional methods. The length of anaesthesia is also reduced when opting for keyhole surgery.
These advantages allow for quicker healing, shorter recovery time and reduced complication leading to a happier pet!
Routine anaesthetic is given and a small amount of gas introduced into the abdominal cavity. This process called Insufflation, creates space for the insertion of a small 5mm camera and specialised instruments. The camera is highly specific for this procedure, giving high definition with a magnification of x20, allowing us to remove the ovaries with great precision.
Once removal of the ovaries is complete, the small incisions are closed and the patient is then recovered from general anaesthetic. They are then able to return to their home comforts on the same day as surgery.
Keyhole surgery has shown great benefits throughout human medicine, providing a minimally invasive surgery technique to reduce complication risks, recovery time and ultimately pain. With this gold standard option now available for your family pet, take advantage of these benefits to improve the experience for them - your pet deserves 65% less pain just as we do.
